Fanuc Robot Engineer

Specialty Manufacturing, Inc. (SMI) is looking for an Automation or Mechanical Engineer specializing in Fanuc Robot Engineering to join their team. Red Caffeine is assisting our client, SMI, in hiring for this role in Saginaw, MI. This position is with SMI - not Red Caffeine - and will report directly to SMI's Vice President. This is a first and second shift position within their facility. Training for this position will be required for 3-to-6 months on first shift then may move to second shift after training is complete. 

Who We Need

The Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of the set up and programming of the Fanuc Robot and integrating it into their facility. This role will also be responsible for testing and modifying programs, and providing automation support when needed.

Responsibilities

• Take initiative to meet challenging project timelines
• Take ownership of assigned tasks and project
• Coordinate, implement and verify off-line programming efforts and online implementation of programming
• Ensure full functionality of the Fanuc system
• Uphold company quality objectives and assist in reaching continuous improvement objectives
• Install and configure appropriate hardware and software options for the Fanuc
• Ability to improve cycle time and throughput by adjusting robot path or functions
• Evaluate potential leads for manufacturability
• Provide engineering support in the manufacturing of products
• Interface with engineering and production support team, and proactively communicate with customers on project status
• Support plant floor with any production or equipment issues
• Work with maintenance department to identify, recommend and implement repair and upgrade issues with current automation and equipment
• Execute problem solving, efficiency studies and process improvement opportunities
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Required Skills and Experience

• Prior experience working with Fanuc Robots or Fanuc Robot-specific training is required
• Ability to read electrical schematics and troubleshoot wiring / PLC communication issues
• High attention to detail and quality
• Ability to plan and execute daily and weekly scheduled tasks
• Openness, energy and “out of the box” creative thinking with a strong hands on and build mentality.
